Why KDK?

Hey, I’m KD!

Nice to meet you! I was born & raised in Detroit, MI and have always been attracted to the traditional and creative process that is aboriginal hair. It’s magick just like us! From practicing on myself and sisters to having a steady side hustle through college, my love and excitement for the possibilities found in our hair grew exponentially. So much so, I found a way to not only incorporate it into my passion for the arts, but to be extremely intentional about the innerG exchange invovled in its manipulation.

 

KDK Hair Design was originally created to cater to the Black & POC artists in Theatre, Print, Fashion, Music, TV & Film.

Too many times have I heard the complaints of being on set and having to outsource for hair styling because no one knows "what to do with it". Or the failed attempts at natural stylings only to have been better off with a wash-n-go. The more we are represented publicly, the more we should be represented behind the scenes.

Then, I thought about the everyday people looking for a reliable braider who CARES for their crown instead of tugging, pulling, and ultimately ripping out their hair just for a few dollars. I provide an intentional, love-filled, prayer powered experience that leaves you with all of your edges, knowledge of care for the style itself & your natural hair, and makes you feel lighter in innerG and even more beautiful than before we began.

My time with you won’t be like sitting in any other chair — You’ll be a part of the process from beginning to end. I’ve been blessed with the gift of crown care & creativity and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. We’ll discuss the overall vision, what you’re comfortable with, and maintenance after the project is complete. I’d like for us to be on the same page and make decisions together. Ultimately, this is an innerGetic exchange. The better innerstanding we have, the better the innerG is between us and the easier it is for me to transfer light to your crown.
